admittance to workhouse Cornwallis Road Workhouse
I have not found the date when Thomas was first admitted to the workhouse. His daughter Ethel was in St John's Road workhouse in 1890, being discharged to the infirmary on December 12th.He was staying in a common lodging house in April 1891 but his three youngest children were inmates in Islington workhouse schools (John and Sydney) and infirmary (Ethel). Ethel was then admitted to Cornwallis Road workhouse on 18th April 1891, when it was stated that she had been deserted by her father.
After breakfast on February 9th 1892 he was discharged, from Cornwallis Road workhouse at his own request, with 3 children. He was readmitted, with John, Sydney and Ethel before supper that day. Thomas was described as maried but I have found no record of his wife in the workhouse books. On February 11th they were again discharged but were readmitted on February 12th. The three children were then discharged to the workhouse schools.

I have found further records of the family entering and leaving the workhouse in 1897. By this time Thomas is described as widower.
